EAM Dr S Jaishankar Co-Chairs Meeting in Bangkok, Focuses on Key Areas of Collaboration
Bangkok witnessed the 12th Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) meeting today, co-chaired by India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and the Foreign Minister of Lao PDR, Saleumxay Kommasith. The meeting served as a platform to further strengthen cooperation between India and the Mekong region, with a particular emphasis on key areas of collaboration.

One of the primary objectives of the meeting was to prioritize the implementation of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, a crucial infrastructure project that will enhance connectivity and trade between the three countries. Efforts were made to expedite the conclusion of the Motor Vehicles Agreement, which will facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers across borders.
To promote economic cooperation, the establishment of the MGC Business Council was announced. This council will play a pivotal role in advancing trade and investment opportunities between India and the Mekong region, fostering a conducive environment for business growth and economic development.

Exploring new avenues of development partnership was also on the agenda, with a focus on Quick Impact Projects that can bring about tangible benefits in areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and more. Recognizing the importance of sustainable development, the meeting emphasized expanding exchanges in agriculture, science and technology, and water resource management.
