In a significant development related to the ISIS Maharashtra module case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made yet another arrest on Thursday, bringing the total number of detainees in the case to five. Dr. Adnanali Sarkar (43), a prominent figure in Pune, was taken into custody following a series of raids conducted in Kondhwa. During the operation, the NIA discovered compelling evidence, including electronic devices and documents linked to the banned terrorist organization ISIS, which exposed Sarkar's involvement in promoting and recruiting vulnerable individuals for the outfit's violent agenda.
The accused is believed to have orchestrated a conspiracy to advance ISIS's terrorist activities under various aliases, such as Islamic State (IS), Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Daish, Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP), ISIS Wilayat Khorasan, and Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham Khorasan (ISIS-K).
According to the NIA's investigation, Sarkar aimed to disrupt India's unity, integrity, security, and sovereignty, and actively conspired to wage war against the Government of India through the organization's 'Maharashtra ISIS module.'
This marks the fifth arrest made in connection with the case since the NIA registered it on June 28, 2023. The initial four arrests were carried out on July 3, 2023, in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune. The detainees were identified as Tabish Nasser Siddiqui from Mumbai, Zubair Noor Mohammed Shaikh, known as Abu Nusaiba, from Pune, as well as Sharjeel Shaikh and Zulfikar Ali Barodawala from Thane.
The NIA continues to conduct a thorough investigation into the Maharashtra ISIS module case, striving to uncover all aspects of the ISIS conspiracy and bring those responsible to justice. The agency remains committed to preserving the safety and security of the nation by dismantling and neutralizing any terrorist activities that threaten the country's peace and stability.
The arrest of Dr. Adnanali Sarkar emphasizes the need for heightened vigilance against extremist ideologies and the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public to combat such threats effectively. As the investigation unfolds, the NIA aims to shed light on the full extent of the ISIS network in Maharashtra, preventing any further potential harm to the nation and its citizens.
