Jaipur: In the aftermath of Rajasthan Minister of State Rajendra Singh Gudha's termination from his position, the political landscape in the state has been ignited with controversy. After being removed from his ministerial post, Gudha boldly asserted in a TV interview that he will keep speaking the truth, regardless of the consequences.
The decision to sack Gudha came after he made candid remarks during a session in the Rajasthan Assembly, where he openly acknowledged the government's failure in ensuring women's safety. "It is true and should be accepted that we have failed in women's safety. Instead of Manipur, we should look within ourselves to address the increased atrocities against women in Rajasthan," Gudha had stated.
The minister's forthrightness on the issue was met with criticism and disapproval from the ruling Congress government, eventually leading to his removal. Governor Kalraj Mishra accepted Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's recommendation for Gudha's dismissal, citing immediate effect.
However, following his removal, Gudha stood firm in his commitment to speak the truth and vowed not to be silenced. During his TV interview, he asserted, "I will continue to speak the truth, regardless of any consequences or political pressures. Women's safety is a matter that needs urgent attention, and I will not back down from raising my voice on such important issues."
The recent incident of a 19-year-old girl's body being found in a well after an alleged rape and murder had sparked outrage in the State Assembly, further intensifying the scrutiny on women's safety in Rajasthan. Additionally, the discovery of four charred bodies in Jodhpur had raised serious concerns over the rising crime rate in the state.
In response to the incidents, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, stated that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and National Commission for Women have taken cognizance of the matter.
The opposition BJP has strongly criticized the Congress-led government, calling for CM Gehlot's resignation over the escalating crimes against women in the state. BJP leader CP Joshi said, "This is a shameful incident. The chief minister should step down owning moral responsibility for the incident, which took place in his home district. Crimes across Rajasthan have been on the rise in the recent past."
The situation in Rajasthan remains tense, with both the government and opposition parties engaged in a war of words over the issues of women's safety and governance. The state's political climate continues to be closely monitored as the controversy unfolds.
