Rescue operation underway as authorities investigate the cause of the lift malfunction.
Suryapet, Telangana: A cement factory in Suryapet, Telangana witnessed a devastating incident as a lift malfunctioned, resulting in the tragic death of five laborers. The accident occurred when the lift plunged from the fourth floor, where the workers were engaged in construction activities. Several others were also injured in the mishap.
The cement factory, named May Home Cement Factory, located in Melacheruvu village, was in the process of setting up a new construction unit known as Unit-4. The lift was being used to transport a concrete mixer to the sixth floor when a technical glitch caused it to stall on the fourth floor. The workers attempted to rectify the issue, but unfortunately, the lift came crashing down, leading to the heartbreaking loss of lives.
Local reports suggest that there are fears that more laborers might be trapped under the debris. Some of the injured workers have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The factory administration has remained tight-lipped about the exact number of workers injured.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about the safety measures in place at the cement factory. Authorities have launched a rescue operation to evacuate any workers stuck in the debris and are investigating the cause of the lift malfunction.
It is important to note that last year, the permission to construct Unit-4 at the May Home Cement Factory was rejected by the Melacheruvu Panchayat. During a meeting, the factory administration was asked to allocate 5% of the project's funds for the development of the village. Until the factory fulfills this requirement, the construction permit for Unit-4 will not be granted.
The incident has left the community and authorities in shock, and it highlights the urgent need for stringent safety protocols and regulations in industrial settings. The loss of precious lives has brought sorrow to the entire region, and authorities are determined to hold the responsible parties accountable for the tragedy.
