DELHI, 20 December 2023: In a proactive move to address the escalating COVID-19 situation in various parts of the country, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently conducted a comprehensive review of the public health system's readiness. Emphasizing the importance of vigilance, he urged the nation to gear up against the evolving strains of the virus.
Dr. Mandaviya underscored the necessity for collaborative efforts between the central and state authorities, emphasizing the need for a cohesive strategy in managing the ongoing health crisis. He proposed regular mock drills, scheduled every three months at both central and state levels, to share and implement best practices for effective surveillance, containment, and management of COVID-19.
Recognizing the dynamic nature of the pandemic, the Health Minister called for states to monitor emerging evidence of COVID-19 cases, symptoms, and case severity. This data will be instrumental in formulating a targeted and timely public health response.
To enhance genomic surveillance and track new variants, states and union territories were advised to send samples of all positive COVID-19 cases to INSACOG labs. This collaborative initiative aims to stay ahead of the curve by understanding and responding to the ever-changing landscape of the virus.
In addition to focusing on the technical aspects, Minister Mandaviya urged states to actively participate in creating awareness, managing the infodemic, and ensuring the dissemination of accurate information. This multifaceted approach seeks to empower communities with knowledge and combat the spread of misinformation surrounding COVID-19.
The Health Minister's call to action signifies a united front against the challenges posed by the pandemic. With joint efforts and a proactive stance, India aims to fortify its defenses and navigate the complexities of the ongoing public health crisis.
