Historic Decision by Allahabad High Court Clears the Way for Survey of Shahi Idgah Complex in Mathura

A First Since Independence: PM Modi's Pilgrimage Highlights Cultural and Historical Significance of Mathura Site
14 December,2023: In a landmark decision, the Allahabad High Court has granted approval for the survey of the Shahi Idgah complex in Mathura. The move comes amidst claims from the Hindu side asserting that Lord Krishna's birthplace lies beneath the mosque, presenting numerous signs suggesting that the structure was once a Hindu temple.

The submission made to the court highlighted the presence of a lotus-shaped pillar, a distinctive feature of Hindu temples. Additionally, an image of 'Sheshnaag,' a Hindu deity crucial in protecting Lord Krishna on the night of his birth, was reportedly found at the site.

The controversy surrounding the Shahi Idgah complex has been a longstanding issue, with divergent views on its historical and religious significance. The recent court approval for a survey marks a significant step forward in addressing these concerns.

Notably, just 20 days ago, Prime Minister Modi performed Puja at the Krishna Janambhoomi temple in Mathura, signaling unprecedented attention to the region. This visit marked the first time any Prime Minister had visited the site since India gained independence, underscoring the cultural and historical importance attached to the Krishna Janambhoomi.
The survey, now authorized by the Allahabad High Court, is expected to provide valuable insights into the historical layers of the Shahi Idgah complex. As the legal and historical aspects of the case unfold, the nation watches closely, awaiting further developments in this intricate and emotionally charged dispute.
