Indian Army's Daring Mission Saves Over 1,200 Lives in Sikkim

Operation Snow Guardian: Indian Army Rescues 1,217 Tourists from Eastern Sikkim's Winter Wrath
Gangtok, December 14, 2023:
In a commendable display of valor and efficiency, the Indian Army's Trishakti Corps executed a successful rescue mission, evacuating 1,217 tourists stranded in high-altitude areas of eastern Sikkim due to heavy snowfall and inclement weather. The operation, which commenced on December 13, concluded in the early morning hours of December 14.

An official statement highlighted the meticulous efforts undertaken by the army to ensure the safety and well-being of the stranded tourists. "The army, in concert with civil administration, ensured that all tourists were safely evacuated back to Gangtok despite the challenging conditions, including sleet-covered roads," stated the official.

The rescue mission involved not only relocating the tourists to safer areas but also providing essential support such as shelter, warm clothing, medical aid, and hot meals. The commitment to the operation was evident as soldiers from the Trishakti Corps continued their efforts late into the night on Wednesday.

Remarkably, the challenges posed by the weather did not deter the army's dedication to the cause. "Soldiers went above and beyond, even vacating their barracks to accommodate the stranded tourists," added the officials.

The tourists, now under the care of the army, are awaiting arrangements for their return to the state capital, Gangtok. The successful execution of this rescue and relief operation underscores the Indian Army's preparedness and commitment to safeguarding citizens in challenging situations.
