MP, 11 December, 23: In a significant political development, Mohan Yadav, a seasoned politician hailing from the OBC community, is poised to become the next Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. With roots as a legislator from Ujjain South and having previously served as the Minister of Higher Education in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government, Yadav's nomination received unanimous approval in a recent BJP legislative meeting.
Having first won the Ujjain South seat in 2013, Yadav secured the constituency again in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. His political ascent continued when he assumed the role of Cabinet Minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government on July 2, 2020, subsequently being entrusted with the portfolio of Higher Education Minister.
Known for his association with the ABVP during his college years in the early '80s, Yadav's political journey began as a secretary in the Madhav Science College student union, eventually rising to the position of president in 1984. His early political career saw him take on various responsibilities within the ABVP, including roles as Nagar Mantri and Pradesh Sahmantri.
Apart from his political engagements, Yadav has an academic background, holding degrees in BSc, LLB, MA in Political Science, MBA, and PhD. Born on March 25, 1965, in Ujjain, he has been an influential figure with close ties to the RSS, reflecting his Hindutva ideology.
Sources indicate that Madhya Pradesh may have two Deputy Chief Ministers, namely Jagbir Deodhar and Rajendra Shukla, with Narendra Singh Tomar taking on the role of Speaker. Yadav's strong connections with the RSS and his ABVP affiliations in the '80s highlight his deep-rooted association with right-wing ideologies.
His extensive political career includes roles such as Deputy Mayor of Ujjain (1984), Divisional Head of ABVP Ujjain (1986), Pradesh Sahmantri of ABVP MP (1988), and National Secretary of ABVP (1991-92). He continued to contribute to various organizational roles within the BJP, serving as Pradesh Mahamantri, President of Ujjain Vikas Pradhikaran, and as a member of the Pradesh Karyakarini.
In 2023, Mohan Yadav has now assumed the pivotal role of Chief Minister, marking a new chapter in Madhya Pradesh's political landscape. His journey from student politics to the highest echelons of state leadership reflects a trajectory shaped by years of experience and unwavering commitment to his political ideology.
