Mizoram: Lalduhoma Assumes Mizoram's Chief Ministerial Office, Ending MNF-Congress Era

Mizoram's Political Landscape Altered: Lalduhoma Sworn in as Chief Minister

Mizoram, Dec 8, 2023:
In a historic turn of events, Lalduhoma, leader of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), has assumed the role of Mizoram's Chief Minister, ushering in a new era and breaking the long-standing dominance of the Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress.

The ZPM, established in 2019, secured an impressive 27 out of 40 seats in the recent Mizoram Assembly elections, marking a rapid rise to power. At 73, Lalduhoma, with a background as an IPS officer and a notable stint as the security in-charge for former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, overcame political setbacks, showcasing resilience on his journey to the Chief Minister's office.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl, symbolizes not just a change in leadership but a paradigm shift in Mizoram's political narrative. Lalduhoma's ascent signifies the end of the 36-year duopoly of the MNF and Congress, promising a 'new system' under his experienced leadership.
