14 December 2023: In a significant development, Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, has written a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressing deep concern over the recent security breach at the Parliament House. Describing the incident as an unprecedented and serious matter, Kharge, in consultation with floor leaders of various political parties, believes it warrants immediate attention.
Kharge emphasizes the gravity of the situation, stating that it is of critical importance and should be addressed under Rule 267 of the Rules and Procedure of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha). He proposes that no other business in the House should proceed until the Minister of Home Affairs provides a statement on the matter, followed by a discussion under Rule 267.
This move underscores the urgency and significance of the security breach, with Kharge asserting that no alternative discussions or meetings should take place until this matter is thoroughly addressed. The breach has raised serious concerns, prompting a unified call for swift action and a comprehensive discussion to ensure the security and integrity of the Parliament.
