Ministry of Education Unveils All India Survey on Higher Education 2021-2022: Notable Rise in Enrolment and Gender Diversity

Empowering Women in Education: Female Enrolment Surges to 2.07 Crore, Reflecting a Positive Trend
New Delhi - 27 January, 24: Today, the Ministry of Education presented the much-anticipated findings of the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2021-2022, showcasing a commendable surge in enrolment and a significant stride towards gender inclusivity in the realm of higher education.

According to the survey report, the enrolment in higher education has experienced a noteworthy increase, reaching 4.33 crore in the academic year 2021-22. This marks an upward trajectory from 4.14 crore in the preceding year (2020-21) and a substantial growth from 3.42 crore recorded in 2014-15. Particularly striking is the surge in female enrolment, reaching 2.07 crore in 2021-22, a remarkable upswing from 1.57 crore in 2014-15.

An outstanding highlight from the AISHE 2021-2022 is the notable 51% increase in the enrolment of female Scheduled Caste (SC) students, reaching 31.71 lakh in the academic year 2021-22, as compared to the data from 2014-15. This emphasizes a positive shift towards inclusivity in higher education.

Since 2014-15, a total of 341 Universities and University-level institutions have been established, showcasing a concerted effort to expand the higher education landscape in the country. The survey further reveals a significant increase in the number of female teachers, totaling 6.94 lakh in the academic year 2021-22, compared to 5.69 lakh in 2014-15.
