Bihar- 28 January, 24: In a significant political development, Nitish Kumar stepped down as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Sunday, concluding his 18-month coalition with Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. This move paves the way for Nitish Kumar's expected return to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with BJP's support, as he is likely to take the oath as the new Chief Minister later today.
At 4 PM, Nitish Kumar, a prominent leader of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], is scheduled to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the new JD(U)-BJP government. This marks his ninth term leading the state, showcasing his enduring political influence.
The political landscape in Bihar is now charged with anticipation as various parties strategize their next moves. The RJD is actively considering options to address the crisis, including the possibility of urging their MLAs to resign.
Nitish Kumar, in a press statement, explained the rationale behind his decision, stating, "Today, I have resigned as the Chief Minister, and I have also informed the Governor to dissolve the government in the state. This situation arose because not everything was alright... I was getting views from everyone. I listened to all of them. Today, the Government has been dissolved. I was not happy with the new alliance."
Reports suggest that before formally resigning, Nitish Kumar will convene a customary meeting of the legislature party. Additionally, two JD(U) leaders are slated to take the oath today, along with two Deputy Chief Ministers and a minister from the BJP.
As Bihar braces for a reshuffling of political alliances, Nitish Kumar's decision adds a new layer of complexity to the state's political dynamics. The upcoming developments are keenly observed by political pundits and citizens alike as Bihar navigates through this transformative phase.
