Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils Ambitious Development Agenda in Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep
New Delhi, January 1, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day tour, commencing on January 2, covering Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and Kerala. The visit promises a flurry of developmental activities, including the inauguration, dedication, and laying of foundation stones for projects totaling over Rs 19,850 crore in Tamil Nadu.

The tour kicks off in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, where the Prime Minister will grace the 38th Convocation Ceremony of Bharathidasan University. Additionally, he will inaugurate the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, symbolizing progress in aviation infrastructure.

The infrastructure boost continues with the dedication of railway projects, including doubling rail lines and electrification efforts, enhancing capacity and contributing to economic growth and employment in Tamil Nadu.

Road connectivity takes the spotlight as well, with the inauguration of various road projects, facilitating safer and faster travel while improving connectivity to industrial and commercial hubs. Prime Minister Modi is also slated to lay the foundation stone for crucial road development projects, further emphasizing the government's commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure.

The Prime Minister's agenda extends to the energy sector, with the dedication of petroleum and natural gas projects worth over Rs 9000 crore. These projects aim to fulfill the energy requirements of the region, contributing to industrial, domestic, and commercial needs, along with significant employment generation.

In a historic move, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant (DFRP) at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam. This facility, designed entirely by Indian scientists, represents a crucial step towards large commercial-scale fast reactor fuel reprocessing plants.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate a 500-bed Boys' Hostel, named 'AMETHYST,' at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) – Tiruchirappalli, bolstering educational infrastructure.

The journey then takes the Prime Minister to Lakshadweep, where development projects worth over Rs 1150 crore will be inaugurated or receive foundation stones. The transformative Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project will be unveiled, dramatically improving internet speed, connectivity, and digital services in the region.

Key projects in Lakshadweep include the inauguration of the Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant at Kadmat, producing 1.5 lakh liters of clean drinking water daily. The Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) initiative will address potable water challenges, supporting local tourism and employment.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for healthcare facility renovation in Kalpeni and the construction of model Anganwadi Centres (Nand Ghars) in Androth, Chetlat, Kadmat, Agatti, and Minicoy islands.

The tour underscores the government's commitment to comprehensive development across states and union territories, bringing about positive changes in infrastructure, connectivity, energy, and healthcare. Prime Minister Modi's engagements align with the vision of an inclusive and prosperous India.
