Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Hits Back at Siddaramaiah's Allegations

Finance Minister Refutes False Claims, Exposes Misinformation

Delhi, 7 February, 24: In a swift rebuttal to accusations leveled by former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a scathing attack, denouncing the allegations as a ploy to shift blame due to an inability to fulfill poll promises.

Sitharaman, addressing the allegations head-on, stated, "They can't fulfill poll freebies, that's why shifting blame." She further accused the Congress of aligning with separatists and the so-called "Tukde Tukde Gang," referencing earlier remarks made by the brother of Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar, advocating for a separate state.

The Finance Minister highlighted the Karnataka government's oversight in acknowledging a revenue deficit of Rs 1,631 crore recommended by the Finance Commission. Sitharaman emphasized the misuse of taxpayers' money by the Karnataka government, pointing out misleading claims made in full-page national newspaper advertisements.

"Six claims were made, but two are outrageously false," Sitharaman asserted. She clarified that contrary to the claims, the Central Government had allocated Rs 12,476 crores for drought and disaster relief, and there was no recommendation for a special grant by the Finance Commission.

Sitharaman concluded by attributing the allegations to a "mindset of separatism," echoing sentiments expressed by the Deputy Chief Minister's brother. She accused the Congress of aligning with separatists and urged for a shift towards unity rather than divisive politics.

The Finance Minister's strong response underscores the growing tension between the central government and the opposition in Karnataka, shedding light on the broader political landscape ahead of crucial state elections.
