Social Activist Criticizes Kejriwal's Policy Shift on Liquor; AAP Affirms Leadership Stability Amidst Legal Battle
Ahmednagar, Maharashtra - 22 March, 24: The Enforcement Directorate's (ED) arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sparked a flurry of reactions, with prominent social activist Anna Hazare expressing disappointment over the developments. Hazare, known for his anti-corruption crusades alongside Kejriwal in the past, voiced his dismay, highlighting the stark contrast between Kejriwal's previous activism against liquor and his current involvement in shaping liquor policies.
Hazare lamented, "I am very upset that Arvind Kejriwal, who used to work with me, raise his voice against liquor, is now making liquor policies. His arrest is because of his own deeds..."
Despite the legal predicament, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) remains steadfast in its support for Kejriwal's leadership. Sources within the party have confirmed that Kejriwal will continue in his role as the Delhi Chief Minister despite the arrest. Plans are underway for Kejriwal to approach a trial court to contest the arrest, adhering to procedural norms.
Kejriwal, who spent the night at the ED's office on Delhi's Abdul Kalam Road, is scheduled to appear before a special court that handles cases related to the probe agency. However, the legal battle faces hurdles as the ED opposes Kejriwal's lawyers' arguments questioning the reliability of approvers' statements.
Responding to Hazare's remarks, AAP MLA Dilip Pandy expressed disappointment, citing instances where political figures aligned with the BJP faced minimal scrutiny. Pandy remarked, "It's very unfortunate... When people like Ajit Pawar get along with the BJP, this very respected person (Anna Hazare) says nothing. This behavior is painful and sad..."
The contrasting opinions reflect the complex political landscape surrounding Kejriwal's arrest, with supporters and critics alike engaging in spirited debates over the implications for governance and accountability.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the nation awaits further developments in the high-profile case, which has reignited discussions on political ethics and alliances.
