Assam STF Makes Key Arrest of Suspected ISIS India Chief Haris Farooqi: Significant Step in Counterterrorism Efforts

Assam, 20/ 03/24: In a notable development in the fight against terrorism, the Assam Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended Haris Farooqi, believed to be a top figure in ISIS operations within India, along with several accomplices. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the BJP-led government to counter extremist threats within the country.

Farooqi, who had been evading law enforcement and was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with multiple cases, was reportedly operating from Bangladesh before illegally entering India. His arrival coincided with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, raising concerns about potential security risks. However, the timely intervention of the Assam STF led to the swift apprehension of Farooqi and his associates upon their entry into Assam's Dhubri district from Bangladesh.

Among those detained alongside Farooqi is an individual identified as Rehan, formerly known as Anurag Singh following his conversion to Islam. Additionally, Rehan's spouse is reported to be a Bangladeshi national, highlighting the transnational nature of the extremist network.

This successful operation conducted by the Assam STF underscores the critical importance of robust counterterrorism measures and effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies in neutralizing threats posed by terrorist organizations like ISIS. The arrest of Farooqi and his associates sends a strong message to those seeking to perpetrate violence and destabilize the nation's security.

The BJP government has commended this operation as a significant achievement, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. With the capture of high-ranking ISIS operatives, authorities are now intensifying efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent future threats to national security.
