General Bipin Rawat Memorial Lecture Commemorates Legacy on 66th Birth Anniversary
Delhi, March 16, 2024: On the 66th birth anniversary of the late General Bipin Rawat, a solemn yet forward-looking event took place in Delhi as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the present Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, came together to attend the General Bipin Rawat Memorial Lecture.
General Bipin Rawat, a towering figure in the Indian armed forces, left an indelible mark on the military landscape of the country. His leadership, vision, and commitment to modernizing and reforming the armed forces resonate even after his untimely demise. In his address, CDS Anil Chauhan shared personal insights into his relationship with General Rawat, highlighting their shared regimental background. He emphasized how General Rawat's groundwork as the inaugural CDS paved the way for ongoing reforms and modernization efforts within the armed forces.
"I followed him as the second CDS of the armed forces," stated General Chauhan, "and here again, my job was made slightly easier. He had set the initial set of reforms to be undertaken. It helps me convert his thoughts and ideas into firm policies and lay down achievable milestones."
General Chauhan underscored the continuity in the reform agenda initiated by General Rawat, acknowledging the pivotal role of the government in instituting reforms such as the creation of the Department of Military Affairs and the appointment of the CDS. He expressed his commitment to carrying forward General Rawat's vision, particularly focusing on fostering a joint culture among the three services.
"I am trying to do what Gen Bipin Rawat had started," affirmed General Chauhan. "This year, I will be working on creating a joint culture in the three services."
The memorial lecture also witnessed discussions on current operational matters, including the deployment of Indian Navy's MiG 29s in Naliya to support the Air Force in Northern operations. General Chauhan's remarks echoed a sentiment of readiness and preparedness for future challenges.
"India’s Amrit Kaal has arrived," declared General Chauhan. "Viksit Bharat has to be a Sashakt Bharat. We have to become a future-ready armed force."
