Gautam Gambhir Steps Away from Politics, Won't Contest Lok Sabha Elections

AAP Criticizes BJP's Handling of East Delhi Representation, Calls for Grassroots Leaders

Delhi, 2 March, 24: Former cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir has announced his decision to step away from politics, signaling his intention not to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Gambhir has forwarded a request to BJP National President JP Nadda seeking relief from his political responsibilities.

Gambhir's foray into politics was marked by notable initiatives, including the introduction of a symbolic Rs 1 kitchen, the establishment of libraries, and the implementation of waste management solutions to address environmental challenges. His impact was particularly evident during the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, where the BJP secured significant victories in his constituency.

Reacting to Gambhir's decision, Kuldeep Kumar, a leader from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), expressed disappointment, citing it as the second instance of the BJP "betraying" the people of East Delhi. He criticized Gambhir and his predecessor Mahesh Giri for allegedly abandoning their constituents after winning elections. Kumar emphasized the need for representation by individuals with genuine connections to the local community, indicating a shift in voter preferences away from celebrity candidates.

Gambhir's departure from the political arena has prompted speculation about the BJP's prospects in the East Delhi constituency, with Kumar asserting that the electorate now seeks candidates with stronger grassroots ties and a deeper understanding of local issues.
