GUWAHATI, ASSAM 24 MARCH 2024: The Assam Special Task Force (STF) made headlines on Saturday evening following the detention of a student from IIT Guwahati for suspected ties to ISIS.
According to Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police of STF, the investigation was launched promptly upon receiving credible information. "After thorough verification, we collaborated with the authorities at IIT Guwahati to pinpoint the individual in question," Pathak stated. The accused has been identified as Tauseef Ali Farooqui, a fourth-year Biotechnology student hailing from Delhi.
Farooqui was apprehended by the STF and taken into custody for interrogation regarding his alleged involvement. "We are diligently pursuing this matter and will take appropriate action based on the outcome of our investigation," Pathak added.
The detention has sparked concerns within the academic and law enforcement communities, highlighting the need for continued vigilance against extremist activities. Authorities remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the public, particularly within educational institutions.
