Delhi, 28 March, 24: In a recent interaction with reporters, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed her financial constraints regarding contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Responding to a question about her financial capacity despite holding the position of Finance Minister, Sitharaman candidly stated, "The Consolidated Fund of India does not belong to me."
Sitharaman further disclosed that BJP President JP Nadda had offered her the opportunity to contest from constituencies in Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu. However, she expressed reservations about the selection process, highlighting concerns about the prevailing winnability criteria. "I also have a problem, whether it is Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu. There are various other winnability criteria that they use...Are you from this community or that religion?" she elaborated.
Despite the offer, Sitharaman expressed gratitude towards the BJP high command for acknowledging her concerns and accepting her argument.
