Joint Operation Leads to Arrest of Alleged ₹2 Crore Bank Looter in Delhi
Delhi, 6 April,24: In a joint operation, the Delhi and Manipur Police have apprehended a 41-year-old banking professional accused of making off with a staggering sum of around ₹2 crore from a bank in the northeastern state.
The accused, identified as Monarch Grace Laishram, hails from Kodompokpi Mamang Awang Leikai in Imphal West district of Manipur. He was employed as a senior assistant at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Bishnupur.
According to officials privy to the matter, Laishram allegedly pilfered the substantial cash amount from the bank's locker room on April 2 and subsequently went into hiding. Following his disappearance, a complaint was registered against him at the Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district, setting off an investigation.
Acting on inputs gathered during the probe, the Bishnupur Police sought assistance from their Delhi counterparts to track down the alleged culprit. Their collaborative efforts paid off when Laishram was finally apprehended on Friday around 5:30 PM from Patel Chest Christian Colony, situated near the Maurice Nagar Police Station in the national capital.
The Manipur Police Control Room officially confirmed the arrest in a statement released to the media late Friday night. It stated, "On 05.04.2024, Manipur police, with active cooperation from Delhi police, arrested one Monarch Laishram from Patel Chest Christian Colony, Delhi. He had allegedly absconded after stealing around ₹2 crore cash from SBI Bishnupur branch."
Authorities are expected to initiate legal proceedings against Laishram for the alleged theft from the bank premises. Further details regarding the recovery of the stolen cash and the ongoing investigation are awaited.
