NEW DELHI, 25 June 2024: In recent statements, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Malvinder Singh Kang emphasized the crucial role of the Lok Sabha Speaker in safeguarding the interests of the opposition. Kang asserted that the Speaker must protect the opposition's voice to ensure a balanced and fair parliamentary process.
Kang proposed that the next Speaker should ideally come from the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties. He argued that this would help maintain impartiality and protect democratic principles. However, if this is not feasible, he suggested that the Speaker should be chosen from among the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies, excluding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Kang's statements highlight the importance of a neutral Speaker who can fairly represent all members of the Lok Sabha, promoting healthy debate and ensuring that diverse viewpoints are heard.
