Cabinet Approves Key Initiatives: New MSPs, Wind Energy Projects, Vadhavan Mega Port, Airport Expansion, and Forensics Infrastructure

Agriculture Boost: New MSPs for 14 Kharif Crops Announced
New Delhi, June 19, 2024– The Cabinet has announced several significant decisions, impacting various sectors across the country.

New MSPs for Kharif Crops:
The Cabinet has approved new Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for 14 Kharif season crops. The MSP for Dhaan (paddy) has been set at Rs. 2,300, reflecting an increase of Rs. 117. Cotton's MSP has been raised to Rs. 7,121 and Rs. 7,521 for two different types, marking an increase of Rs. 508 from the previous rates.

Offshore Wind Energy Projects:
In a landmark decision, the Cabinet has approved two offshore wind energy projects, each with a capacity of 500 MW. These projects aim to bolster the country's renewable energy sector and contribute to sustainable development goals.

Vadhavan Mega Port Project:
The Cabinet has given the green light to the Vadhavan mega port project in Palghar, Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs. 76,200 crores. This project is expected to enhance the region's maritime infrastructure and boost economic growth.

Expansion of Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport:
The Cabinet has approved a substantial expansion plan for Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, costing approximately Rs. 2,870 crores. The project includes the addition of a new terminal building to accommodate the increasing passenger traffic.

Enhancing Forensics Infrastructure:
A new scheme has been approved to enhance forensics infrastructure across all States and Union Territories. With a budget of Rs. 2,254 crores, this initiative will establish training centers capable of accommodating about 9,000 students annually, improving forensic science capabilities nationwide.

These approvals reflect the government's commitment to advancing agricultural support, renewable energy, infrastructure development, and scientific education.
