In a tragic incident, a devastating fire erupted in a six-storey building housing workers in Kuwait's Mangaf city, resulting in the death of 41 people, including several Indians. The fire broke out around 6 am local time (9 am IST) on Wednesday. The Kuwaiti health ministry reported that about 43 individuals were hospitalized due to the fire, with four succumbing to their injuries.

The fire originated in the building's kitchen in the early hours, officials confirmed. The building was home to nearly 160 workers from the same company. Eyewitnesses recounted harrowing scenes of individuals jumping from the fifth floor in desperate attempts to escape the flames, leading to fatalities.

"We are deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait City. There are reportedly over 40 deaths and more than 50 hospitalizations. Our Ambassador has visited the site. We are awaiting further information," stated Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has promptly responded by issuing a helpline number (+965-65505246) and assured that all necessary assistance will be provided. The embassy's statement read: "In connection with the tragic fire-accident involving Indian workers today, the Embassy has put in place an emergency helpline number: +965-65505246. All concerned are requested to connect over this helpline for updates. The Embassy remains committed to render all possible assistance. Deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives. Wish early and full recovery to those who have been injured. Our Embassy will render the fullest assistance to all concerned in this regard."

The Indian Ambassador in Kuwait confirmed that over 30 Indian workers injured in the fire have been admitted to hospitals. The embassy continues to monitor the situation closely and provide support to those affected.
