DELHI, 21 AUGUST 2024- In a major step to improve the travel experience for commuters in the Delhi-NCR region, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement, made today, focuses on creating a unified QR code-based ticketing system that will allow passengers to seamlessly travel across both the Delhi Metro and NCRTC networks using a single ticket.
The new system is expected to significantly reduce the hassle of buying multiple tickets for different modes of transport. With this collaboration, DMRC and NCRTC aim to enhance the convenience of millions of daily commuters by making their travel experience smoother and more efficient.
Once implemented, passengers will be able to use the same QR code ticket to switch between the Delhi Metro and NCRTC's regional trains without needing to purchase a new ticket. This initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate various modes of public transportation in the National Capital Region, making it easier for people to travel without interruptions.
Officials from both organizations emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that it will not only improve passenger convenience but also encourage more people to use public transport, thus reducing traffic congestion and pollution in the region.
The introduction of the integrated QR code ticketing system is seen as a forward-thinking move that aligns with the government's vision of creating a more connected and accessible public transport network. As the project progresses, commuters can look forward to a more streamlined and user-friendly experience while traveling in the Delhi-NCR area.
