Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP of Spreading Misinformation, Threatens Protest Outside Raj Bhavan

Kolkata, India — West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, accusing the party of spreading misinformation about her through artificial intelligence and defaming Bengal. In a fiery speech, Banerjee said, "BJP is insulting me for no reason and spreading misinformation through AI. I have been patient so far."

Banerjee praised the West Bengal police for their handling of recent unrest, attributing the disturbances to BJP's alleged attempts to malign the state's image. "I salute the police for handling the situation well yesterday. BJP wants to defame Bengal. It is shameless," she declared.

Call for Capital Punishment Bill Approval

In a bold move, Banerjee threatened to lead a protest outside Raj Bhavan if Governor C.V. Ananda Bose does not approve the proposed bill advocating capital punishment for rapists. "We will sit outside Raj Bhavan if the Governor doesn't approve the bill of capital punishment to rapists," she announced, underscoring her administration's tough stance on crime against women.

Criticism of Central Agencies

The Chief Minister also questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the slow progress in a high-profile case. "It has been 16 days since CBI took over the case, where is the justice?" she asked, expressing frustration over what she perceives as a lack of urgency in the investigation.

Warning to Central Government

Banerjee's remarks took a more severe tone as she warned the central government of the potential consequences of political instability in West Bengal. "Modi Babu, remember, if Bengal burns, Delhi will also burn," she cautioned. She extended this warning to other states, stating, "Remember, if Bengal burns, so will Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi."

BJP's Response

In response, West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar condemned Banerjee's statements, calling them unworthy of a person holding a constitutional office. "This isn’t the voice of someone holding a constitutional position; it’s the voice of an anti-national," Majumdar retorted.

Demand for President's Rule

Adding to the escalating political tensions, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari demanded the imposition of President's Rule in West Bengal, citing what he described as a breakdown of law and order in the state.

Political Landscape Heats Up

The exchange of harsh words between Mamata Banerjee and BJP leaders marks another chapter in the intensifying political rivalry in West Bengal. As both sides gear up for upcoming elections, the state's political landscape remains charged, with accusations and counter-accusations flying thick and fast.
