Prime Minister Asserts No Question of Applying Creamy Layer to SC/ST Quotas
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a strong stand against the implementation of the creamy layer concept within reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). In a recent interaction with BJP Members of Parliament (MPs) from the SC/ST community, PM Modi stated that even the question of applying such a concept to these reservations does not arise.
The discussion came in the wake of the Supreme Court's recent observations regarding the potential implementation of the creamy layer within SC/ST reservations. The creamy layer refers to the more affluent and educated members within a reserved community, who are often seen as potentially being excluded from the benefits of reservation.
However, PM Modi assured the MPs that the government's stance remains unchanged, and that the interests of the SC/ST communities will continue to be protected. He emphasized the importance of preserving the original intent of reservations, which is to uplift the most marginalized and disadvantaged sections of society.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the BJP's commitment to ensuring that the reservation system remains an effective tool for social justice and equality, without dilution or misinterpretation of its purpose.
