BIHAR, 12 August 2024: In a tragic incident, at least seven people lost their lives, and nine others were injured in a stampede at Baba Siddhnath Temple in Makhdumpur, located in Bihar's Jehanabad district. The situation occurred during a religious gathering at the temple, causing panic among the devotees.
Jehanabad District Magistrate (DM) Alankrita Pandey confirmed the casualties and assured that the situation is now under control. "We are closely monitoring everything, and the situation has been stabilized," she said.
Divakar Kumar Vishwakarma, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jehanabad, provided more details about the incident. He mentioned that both the DM and the Superintendent of Police (SP) visited the site to assess the situation and ensure all necessary measures were taken.
"We have confirmed that seven people have died in the incident. We are in contact with the families of the deceased and injured, and investigations are underway. The bodies of those who passed away will be sent for post-mortem after their identification," SHO Vishwakarma stated.
The authorities are continuing their efforts to manage the aftermath of the tragedy and support the affected families.
