Modi and Xi Emphasize Strengthening Bilateral Relations for Regional and Global Stability
Kazan, 23 October 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. The meeting marked a significant step towards restoring stability in India-China relations, following the tensions that escalated along their shared border in 2020.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Modi welcomed the recent agreement on the complete disengagement and resolution of border issues. He emphasized the importance of managing differences through dialogue and ensuring that disputes do not disrupt peace and tranquility in the border areas. Both leaders agreed that the Special Representatives on the India-China boundary question would meet soon to oversee the maintenance of peace and explore a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary issue.
Additionally, the dialogue mechanisms involving Foreign Ministers and other officials will be reactivated to further stabilize and rebuild bilateral relations.

Both leaders recognized the importance of fostering stable, predictable, and amicable bilateral relations between India and China, given their roles as neighboring nations and the two largest countries in the world. They affirmed that a healthy relationship between the two powers would have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity, contributing to the vision of a multi-polar Asia and a multi-polar world.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strategic communication and exploring cooperative opportunities to address common developmental challenges, aiming for a long-term, stable partnership between the two nations.
