Mumbai: Actor and former Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan's debut in politics took an unexpected turn as he garnered just 131 votes in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Contesting from the Versova constituency under the banner of the Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), Khan's entry into the political arena did not resonate with voters, despite his significant social media following of over 5.6 million on Instagram.
The Election Commission's latest figures revealed Khan's low vote count, raising questions about the impact of celebrity status in Indian politics. His social media popularity failed to translate into electoral support, with his tally falling far behind other candidates in the constituency.
In contrast, Haroon Khan emerged as the frontrunner in Versova, securing 58,047 votes. Even the NOTA (None of the Above) option, chosen by 1,022 voters, surpassed Ajaz Khan's count by nearly eight times.
Khan's political aspirations reflect a trend of public figures seeking roles in governance. However, his performance highlights the challenge of converting fame into a credible political base. The results serve as a stark reminder that popularity on social media does not always align with ground-level political influence.
While Ajaz Khan's attempt at politics has not yielded success this time, it remains to be seen if he will continue his journey in public service or focus on his career in entertainment.
