Mumbai: A potentially catastrophic accident was averted on Thursday, November 21, after a Mumbai local train collided with a 15-foot iron rod placed on the tracks between Khar and Santacruz stations. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM and involved a Goregaon-CSTM local train.
The timely response of motorman Yogesh Kumar prevented a major disaster. He immediately halted the train upon impact and informed the station master, who alerted the Railway Police Force (RPF). Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the act raised serious concerns about railway safety.
Following an investigation, the RPF arrested 20-year-old Abdul Kadir Samatbrez Shaikh, a resident of Khar West. CCTV footage from the area revealed Shaikh placing the iron rod on the tracks. During interrogation, the accused admitted to the act, which could have resulted in severe consequences for passengers.

A case has been registered against Abdul Kadir Shaikh under several sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Railway Act. These include:
Section 125(a): Endangering life or personal safety of others.
Section 126(2): Wrongfully restraining railway operations.
Section 329(3): Criminal trespass.
Section 152 (Railway Act): Hurting or attempting to hurt persons traveling by railway.
The authorities are treating the case with utmost seriousness, given the potential risk to public safety.
