Khalistan Zindabad Force Claims Responsibility for Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela Fire; Security Agencies Intensify Probe
Prayagraj, January 26, 2025 – The Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) has claimed responsibility for the fire that broke out at the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. The incident, which occurred on January 19, led to the destruction of multiple tents and has raised serious security concerns.
The fire, initially suspected to have been caused by a gas cylinder explosion in the Geeta Press camp’s kitchen, was later linked to an alleged act of sabotage. The KZF claimed in a widely circulated email that the fire was a retaliatory measure for the killing of three Khalistani militants in an encounter in Pilibhit district on December 23, 2024. The group alleged that the encounter was staged.
Massive Investigation Underway
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Authorities have detained several suspects and issued over 1,000 notices to individuals for questioning. Additionally, approximately 600 CCTV clips are under scrutiny to identify any suspicious activities.
Social media platforms are being closely monitored to trace potential links to the incident, while the police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities.
Security Measures Tightened
In response to the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed security agencies to ensure the safety of devotees attending the 45-day-long Mahakumbh Mela, which began on January 13. CM Adityanath visited the site, met with officials, and emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent any further disruptions.
“The safety of every devotee is our top priority. We will ensure that no anti-national activity disrupts the sanctity of this holy event,” CM Adityanath stated during his visit.
Symbolic Significance of the Mahakumbh Mela
The Mahakumbh Mela, a major Hindu religious event, attracts millions of devotees from across India and abroad. It holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, making it a potential target for groups seeking to disrupt communal harmony.
Security has been heightened across the mela grounds, with increased surveillance on entry points, vehicle checks, and deployment of additional personnel from multiple agencies.
Public Safety and Cooperation
Authorities have urged attendees and locals to stay vigilant and report any unusual activities to the nearest security personnel. Helplines have been established to address safety concerns and provide immediate assistance.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days. Meanwhile, the state government remains committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the smooth conduct of the Mahakumbh Mela.
