Protesters Demand Return of Hindu Kingdom; Communist Party Office Vandalized
Kathmandu: The Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, has been placed under curfew following massive protests demanding the restoration of monarchy and Nepal’s status as a Hindu kingdom. The demonstrations, which have been intensifying in recent days, saw violent clashes and acts of vandalism.
Protesters Attack Party Offices, Set Vehicles on Fire
On March 29, angry demonstrators stormed the offices of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Socialist (CPN-US), vandalizing the premises. Reports confirm that at least eight vehicles were torched during the unrest.
Chanting slogans such as "Raja Aau, Desh Bachau" (Come back, King, Save the Nation), thousands of Nepalese citizens took to the streets, demanding the reinstatement of the monarchical system abolished in 2008.
Government Imposes Curfew to Control Escalating Unrest
In response to the escalating situation, authorities declared a curfew in Kathmandu, restricting movement and increasing security measures to prevent further violence.
Growing Demand for Political Change
Nepal transitioned from a Hindu kingdom to a secular republic in 2008 after the monarchy was abolished. However, in recent years, a significant section of the population has been calling for the revival of the monarchy and Hindu statehood, citing dissatisfaction with the current governance system.
With protests intensifying, the government faces mounting pressure to address the demands of the demonstrators. Further developments are expected as the situation unfolds.
