Massive Drain Inspection in Delhi: CM Rekha Gupta, LG Saxena Issue Strict Cleanup Orders

New Delhi, April 10, 2025:
In a major step toward improving urban infrastructure and ensuring public health, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, and Cabinet Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh carried out a joint inspection of several major drains across the capital city on Wednesday.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister stated that the inspection covered key locations including the Wazirabad Supplementary Drain, Barapulla Drain, Sunehri Pul Drain, and Kushak Drain. The visit aimed to assess the current state of the drains and to issue directives for their immediate cleaning and revival.

"Cleaning and repairing Delhi’s drains is not just about monsoon preparedness — it’s a matter of ensuring the health and safety of Delhi's citizens," said CM Rekha Gupta.

During the inspection, all relevant departments were instructed to accelerate desilting and maintenance work. The use of advanced machinery and modern technology has been mandated to ensure thorough and long-term cleaning of the drainage system.

Under the broader initiative to rejuvenate the Yamuna River, the Delhi government has begun conducting inspections of all major city drains every 15 days. This is part of a continuous monitoring effort to reduce pollution inflow into the river and prevent urban flooding during the monsoon season.

“We’ve directed all concerned officials to expedite the cleaning and restoration of drains using high-tech equipment. This is part of our long-term strategy to clean the Yamuna and improve Delhi’s sanitation infrastructure,” the Chief Minister added.

This unified effort by the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office underscores a collaborative approach to environmental restoration and urban management. The inspection drive is expected to continue in phases, ensuring that all major drains in Delhi are cleaned and made functional ahead of the rainy season.
